head --lines {{8}} {{path/to/file}}

Output the first few bytes of a file:

head --bytes {{8}} {{path/to/file}}

Output everything but the last few lines of a file:

head --lines -{{8}} {{path/to/file}}

Output everything but the last few bytes of a file:

head --bytes -{{8}} {{path/to/file}}
